Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant in Paediatric Neurology at Leeds Children's Hospital. We are looking to appoint a fulltime locum for 6 months and have approval for a substantive post when the locum post comes to an end.

The successful applicant will join the 7 existing paediatric neurology consultants, 4 Consultant paediatric neurosurgeons, and experienced multidisciplinary team supporting children with neurological disorders across the region.

The post is based at the Leeds Children's Hospital. All paediatric specialities including neonates and PICU are co-located on site.

The successful applicant must possess MRCPCH (or equivalent). They should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.

Applicants should have completed a recognised training scheme in paediatric neurological disorders. Excellent clinical, communication and team working skills are essential, together with a strong commitment to teaching and learning.

Main duties of the job

This is a 10PA locum appointment for a

Consultant Paediatric Neurologist.

The successful applicant will join the 7 existing paediatric neurology consultants, 4 Consultant paediatric neurosurgeons, and experienced multidisciplinary team supporting children with neurological disorders across the West, North and East Yorkshire and Humber region. The post holder will work with the existing specialist multidisciplinary neurosciences team in outpatients and on the dedicated neuroscience ward.

The post is based at the Leeds Children's Hospital (LCH) on the Leeds General Infirmary site. All paediatric specialities including neonates and PICU are on site, as are adult neurology and neurosurgery.

The post-holder will provide 1 in 6 hot week on call cover managing internal referrals from colleagues in LCH and external referrals from across the region and have access to the full range of diagnostic services on site

The paediatric neurology team provide outpatient

clinics in Leeds and in outreach clinics across the region as part of the Yorkshire Paediatric

Neuroscience Network. The postholder will

undertake regular Leeds based and regional clinics,

dependent on their job plan and personal interests.

The team have recently developed an innovative

model, to provide rapid clinical advice and support

to regional medical colleagues, via virtual

clinician-to-clinician Hub discussions which are coordinated and minuted contemporaneously by our neurology coordinator.

Paediatric Neurosciences at Leeds Children's Hospital is the home to a thriving and active department with a national reputation. We receive referrals from the local area, and Paediatric teams from North and West Yorkshire, along with Hull and the East Riding. The Neurology department provides a specialist (tertiary) service for the diagnosis and treatment of children with neurological disorders. We have active involvement with local, national and international research projects.

Children with neurological and neurosurgical disorders are admitted to the dedicated paediatric neuroscience ward at LGI and are jointly managed by paediatric neurologists and the paediatric neurosurgeons.

Paediatric neurosciences are fully supported by specialist neuroradiology & interventional neuroradiology, neurophysiology, genetics and neuropathology.

OBJECTIVES OF THE POST

2.1 To deliver care to patients with paediatric neurological conditions as follows:

Participate in the 1 in 6 paediatric neurology on call rota

Participate in neurology clinician-to-clinician acute and elective hub discussions

Deliver out-patient clinics and contribute to MDT discussions and care

2.2 The paediatric neurologists provide on call cover via a hot week system on a 1 in 6 basis. The consultant of the week is responsible of daily ward rounds of the neuroscience inpatients, and managing new referrals from within the Children's hospital and the region, providing urgent clinical review and advice as needed. During the hot week, the on call consultants elective activity is suspended.

2.3 Outpatient clinics are provided at Leeds Children's Hospital and in a number of the district hospitals across the region. The successful postholder would be expected to undertake both general neurology and subspecialty clinics depending on their own interests. Regional clinics may be provided through the Hub model in discussion with the responsible local paediatrician, or in outreach clinics off site.

2.4 The postholder will contribute to teaching, governance and service developments within the Paediatric neurology Department. They will be encouraged to contribute to ongoing clinical research activity in the department. Personal research interests will also be encouraged and supported within the departmental research programme.

• Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in paediatric neurology
• Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances

Qualifications
Essential

• MB BS (or equivalent)
• MRPCH (or equivalent)

Desirable

• Higher degree e.g. MD/PhD relevant to the subspecialty

• Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
• Eligibility to work in the UK.
• Is up to date and fit to practise safely
• All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following
• Applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English.

• Achieved the minimum score of 7 across all 4 of the following categories in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application

• Achieved the minimum Grade B across all 4 of the following categories in the Occupational English Test (OET) in medicine in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application Listening, Speak
