CARDIFF AND VALE UNIVERSITY HEALTH BOARD
CONSULTANT IN CARDIOTHORACIC ANAESTHESIA
We are looking for a Consultant Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist with a special interest in Thoracics to join our established team.
Cardiff and Vale Health Board is one of the largest in the United Kingdom and is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services. Academic interests will be encouraged with research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University's Wales College of Medicine.
Although this post is full time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements. Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register for Anaesthetics or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales.

Main duties of the job
All anaesthetic services within the cardiothoracic unit are consultant led and delivered and provide a full consultant service to the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CICU).
Complex and high risk surgery is undertaken daily in the 3 dedicated operating theatres, providing intensive training opportunities for speciality registrars. There is also a busy programme of challenging cardiology catheter lab procedures including electrophysiology and transcutaneous valve replacement (TAVI).
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the Cardiothoracic work of the Department including cover for Consultant colleagues where practical. This includes working flexibly to maintain skilled consultant cover for emergency service provision.
