Join our ACSA accredited department and gain or enhance your skills in anaesthesia and ICU.This post is aimed at doctors with at least 2 years anaesthetic experience who are taking a year out from training, particularly those who wish to gain the Primary FRCA, or need to acquire anaesthetic equivalence for entry into Stage 2 anaesthetic training. Doctors with less experience will be considered provided they have obtained initial competencies in Anaesthesia and Critical Care. The post would also be suitable for doctors with more experience, who are out of training, who wish to gain the final FRCA and re-enter training. The responsibilities of the post will reflect the previous experience of the post-holder.

Trust Doctors will have CPD sessions when not covering night duties, some of which will be used to attend the monthly department governance and education half days. Doctors wishing to gain the primary FRCA may use this time to participate in our departmental examination teaching programme. For those aspiring to gain the Final FRCA, we offer a programme of support for MCQ, SAQ and VIVA practice.
Main duties of the job

For doctors needing to acquire Stage 1 competencies and 'bridge the gap' for ST4 application, we will offer:
  • Support with acquiring evidence for the Professional Domains
  • A new TIVA training package
  • Labour ward and obstetric anaesthesia experience including out of hours
  • Exposure to children aged 5 and over for non-complex surgery
  • Further exposure to regional anaesthesia and ultrasound blocks
  • Increased perioperative medicine exposure
  • Further ICU training if required

We are proud of our record in supporting doctors who are out of training to achieve their career goals including obtaining examinations and re-entry to specialist training. The department provides teaching and training support to gain the Primary and Final FRCA and has a strong history of supporting doctors to enhance their CVs through service improvement projects, audit, teaching and publications.

The posts are initially for a fixed term contract for 12 months but could be extended if mutually agreeable. The posts are designed to be full time but applicants wishing to work less than full-time will be considered. A 40 hr week job plan (with pro rata basic salary) is also available.
