The PCN is looking to recruit a Physician Associateto work within St Neots Surgery. This is a great opportunity, there has never been a more exciting time to start work within primary care, as we develop our PCN, explore new ways of working to deliver a quality health care service for the future. The PA will work within their professional boundaries, providing care for patients from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care, under the supervision of a GP within the multi-disciplinary general practice team to support the delivery of policy and procedures and meet the needs of patients.
Main duties of the job

The PA role will involve

Providing first point of contact care for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems by utilising history-taking, physical examinations and clinical decision-making skills to establish a working diagnosis and management plan.

Support the management of patients conditions through offering specialised clinics following appropriate training including (but not limited to) family planning, baby checks, COPD, asthma, diabetes, and anticoagulation.

Develop integrated patient-centred care through appropriate wording with the wider primary care multi-disciplinary team and social care networks.

Utilise clinical guidelines and promote evidence-based practice and partake in clinical audits, significant event reviews and other research and analysis tasks.

Undertaking face-to-face, telephone, and online consultations for emergency or routine problems as determined by the PCN, including management of patients with long-term conditions.

Develop and agree a personal development plan (PDP) utilising a reflective approach to practice, operating under appropriate clinical supervision.

Waterside Health Network PCN are the largest in Devon and comprises of 7 GP practices. Even though you will be working for 1 practice, you will be part of the PCN family. We encourage our staff to take ownership of their role and bring their knowledge and experience, in being part of the development of the practices and not be afraid to suggest improvements or new ways of working. So that we can continue to grow and develop to ensure we provide the best possible service to our patient population. The PCN has 2 qualified PAs and 1 PAs studying for their qualification currently but, we are looking to increase this number. The PCN PAs working in calibration, sharing ideas, good practice. You will be supported & support the practices team.

Job responsibilities

The applicate will have
  • Completed a post-graduate physician associate course (either PGDiploma or MSc)
  • Has maintained professional registration with the Faculty of Physician Associates and/or the General Medical council following implementation ofstatutory regulation, working within the latest code of professional conduct (CIPD)
  • Has passed the UK Physician Associate (PA) National Re-Certification Exam, which needs to be retaken every six years
  • Participates in continuing professional development opportunities by keeping up to date with evidence-based knowledge and competence in all aspects of their role, meeting clinical governance guidelines for continuing professional development (CPD), and develop and agree a personal development plan (PDP) utilising a reflective approach to practice, operating under appropriate clinical supervision.

Work under supervision of a doctor as part of the medical team,

in order to deliver the key responsibilities outlined below

  • provide health/disease promotion and prevention advice, alongside analysing and actioning diagnostic test results
  • develop integrated patient-centred care through appropriate wording with the wider primary care multi-disciplinary team and social care networks
  • utilise clinical guidelines and promote evidence-based practice and partake in clinical audits, significant event reviews and other research and analysis tasks
  • participate in duty rotas undertaking face-to-face, telephone, and online consultations for emergency or routine problems as determined by the PCN, including management of patients with long-term conditions
  • undertake home visits when required and
  • develop and agree a personal development plan (PDP) utilising a reflective approach to practice, operating under appropriate clinical supervision


Person Specification
Experience
Essential
  • Paid or unpaid experience gained from working with people who have mental issues
  • Experience of working under pressure and managing varying workloads and changing demands
Desirable
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team in a Primary Care setting.
  • Understanding of patient management in Primary Care setting
Qualifications
Essential
  • Degree in integrated Master of Physician Associate Studies (MPAS) and postgraduate diploma (PGDip)/Masters Level in life or healthcare sciences
  • Relevant UK PA National Re-Certification Exam
  • The latest Code of Professional Conduct (CIPD)
Desirable
  • Postgraduate qualification or working towards
