Applications are invited for a registrar in cardiology at St George's Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in the Cardiology Clinical Academic Group. This position will supplement current deanery posts and will be for 1 year with the option to extend for a further year. This post is suitable for a doctor ST5 level (or equivalent) upwards with cardiology experience, who wishes to enhance their experience in Cardiology. Applicants must hold a valid ALS certificate. Experience in echocardiography is essentialfor this post and experience in cardiac catheterisation and temporary pacemaker insertion is desirable but not necessary. The successful candidate will also participate in the cardiology on-callrota for out of hours work.

Job responsibilities

The candidate will receiveongoing training and exposure in echocardiography, coronary angiography and pacing (according toexperience and need).Continued cardiological education is maintained by weekly echocardiography, coronary intervention,electrophysiology and heart failure/Cardiac MRI meetings. Participation in clinical audit is essentialand there will be the opportunity to perform a service improvement project.

1) Provide inpatient services to cardiology patients and to undertake regular ward rounds toensure effective management during the in-patient stay and early discharge of patients.

2) On-call duties - Participation in the Primary PCI rota for STEMI and high-risk NSTEACS patients.Assessment and management of patients with acute cardiovascular problems from A & E and AcuteMedicine, other specialties within the trust, and transferred from the local district general hospitals.

3) Practical procedures: Transthoracic echocardiography knowledge is essential and training will beprovided in coronary angiography, temporary and permanent pacemaker insertion & central lineinsertion according to the applicants needs.

4) To be a full member of the multi-disciplinary team, including participation in the rota andattendance and presentation at weekly MDTs.4) Additional duties Participate in new patient and follow-up consultant-led outpatient clinics. Supervision of physician assistants, junior doctors (ST1-2) and paramedical staff.
