Job Details

Are you looking to take the next step in your medical career in Emergency Medicine?

We're looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Consultant Pre-Hospital and Emergency Medicine to join our fantastic ED team here at Noble's Hospital on the Isle of Man.

About the role and our team

Noble’s Hospital is the Islands’ only District General Hospital, situated on the outskirts of Douglas, the capital of the Isle of Man. It is equipped to the very latest standards with a total complement of 171 beds; the site also houses a combined education and training centre equipped with a comprehensive library, study rooms, lecture theatre and a state of the art simulation suite.

You will join our enthusiastic and friendly Emergency Medicine department which is an integral part of the Medicine and Urgent Care and Ambulance Service Care Group. We are well-equipped with 8 resus beds and 6 majors bays with 2 rapid initial assessment and treatment/flex rooms. There is also a dedicated Minors Assessment Care Unit on site that also has 6 Minor injuries and Ambulatory care beds.

You will be able to gain significant experience of major trauma associated with the Island’s widespread motorsport culture – this is particularly concentrated during the TT fortnight in June followed by the Manx Grand Prix in August where several major traumas can be admitted each day. Manx Care also operates a fixed wing Air Ambulance Service, and during racing periods a helicopter Air Ambulance Service.

You will join a supportive team of middle grade doctors, nursing staff and consultants, all of whom are committed to improving outcomes for the Island's patients.

What can this role offer me?

By joining us you’ll be stepping away from NHS pressures and demands, as the Island’s healthcare system is similar but separate to the UK NHS.

We recognise the need for all medical staff on the Island to maintain connections with medicine in the United Kingdom and encourage links with other units, as well as providing study leave with pay and expenses to attend approved conferences and workshops.

Free on-site parking is available at Noble’s Hospital.

About the Island and relocating

Here you can enjoy a fantastic quality of life, and an excellent work-life balance! There are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities; so if you like walking, mountain biking, sailing or kayaking, you’ll have lots of places to explore!

There are also lots of great cafes, bars and restaurants, and you can enjoy the Island’s real sense of community. The island is well connected to the UK, and you’ll also benefit from low income tax rates (20% maximum rate).

If you are relocating or returning to the Island, you can also benefit from the National Insurance Holiday Scheme, which allows you to apply for a refund on your NI contributions for your 1st year of living here. To see how this scheme could benefit you, and to find out more about relocating to the Isle of Man, visit www.locate.im.

A relocation package of up to £7,000 based on receipts is available for this role. Housing Assistance is also available where the Department will pay the difference between your current mortgage/rent bill, and that of your new accommodation on the Isle of Man, up to a maximum of £250 per month. This role also qualifies for a recruitment incentive of £3,000, payable in the 1st, 13th, and 25th months of employment. To find out more about our relocation package click here.
