We are seeking a Consultant Neuropathologist to join the existing team of three experienced Neuropathologists providing services to the Lancashire and South Cumbria Neurosciences Centre (Neurosurgery and Medical Neurosciences) and the Ophthalmic services at this Trust. The team work closely with Salford and Walton regional neuropathology units and together run a tri-centre Diagnostic Neuropathology training scheme.
Main duties of the job
The Neuropathologist would develop their interests in neuro-oncology , neuromuscular pathology, invasive autopsy and research. Neuroscience is one the Trust's key research themes and cellular pathology works closely with the Research and Innovation Directorate, local universities and the research consortium, Brain Tissue North West to support a range of academic research and clinical trials.
The Neuropathologist Team work alongside 13 Consultant Histopathologists an SAS doctor and 1-2 Specialist Trainee Pathologists in the Department of Cellular Pathology within a large and established Pathology Directorate providing Neuropathology, Histopathology, Immunohistochemistry, Non Gynaecological Cytology, Electron Microscopy and Autopsy services to Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
About us
The hospital is the tertiary centre for Gynaecological, Plastics, Head and Neck, Upper GI and Urology Cancers and the Cellular Pathology Department is a specialised cancer reporting centre. Although the majority of post-mortem work is now performed by CT scan, invasive autopsies are still undertaken and it is anticipated the Neuropathologist would assist with this work. The department is also supportive of flexible working and working from home the specifics of this can be discussed with department clinical lead Dr S. Sharief.
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals is a designated delivery partner for the North West Coast Genomics Medicine Centre with a dedicated Genomics preparatory section in the department.
The Trust provides the full range of acute outpatient and inpatient services to 380,000 people living in Central Lancashire.
