We are looking to appoint a Consultant Gastroenterologist to University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP), to work in a team of nine gastroenterologists and eight hepatologists. The role will provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology care. Applicants with an interest in endoscopy, nutrition and complex IBD are encouraged.

 

Main duties of the job

 

Inpatient Ward cover:

7 day service across Gastroenterology ward.

Outpatient Clinics:

2 PAs of Outpatient activity will be rostered weekly or as per annualised rota.

Outpatient clinics run Monday - Friday both am and pm. These clinics are a combination of new and follow up patients and are primarily telephone contact but there are some face to face bookings.

Endoscopy:

2 PAs of endoscopy activity will be rostered weekly or as per annualised rota.

Endoscopy On call:

1:15 with prospective cover.

Out of hours bleeds- conducted in emergency theatres*

*Compensatory rest will be allocated via annualised rota.

Person Specification

Education & Training

Essential

  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent
  • GMC registration for both Gastroenterology and General internal medicine or eligible for admission within 6 months of interview.

Desirable

  • higher degree
  • Evidence of sub specialty or other specific training

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Able to manage patients with complex gastroenterology disease
  • Skilled endoscopist. Competent at therapeutic upper GI endoscopy, including management of GI bleeding.

Research and Audit

Essential

  • Active involvement in clinical audit

Desirable

  • MD or PHD
  • Evidence of continuing research.
  • Willingness to supervise post-graduate research.
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals
  • Experience of clinical trials

Teaching

Essential

  • Ability to teach clinical and practical skills.

Desirable

  • Experience of undergraduate teaching

Communication

Essential

  • Ability to communicate with both patients and staff.

Interpersonal Skills

Essential

  • Ability to form constructive and effective professional relationships with patients and staff.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to delegate appropriately.
