Job Details
Applications are warmly invited for a full-time (10PA) substantive Consultant, with a specialist interest in Fetal Medicine post in Obstetrics to join the Obstetrics & Gynaecology Directorate at Northampton General Hospital.
As part of the Obstetrics Team you will be supported in all aspects of the role, but you will also support, coach and impart your knowledge and experience to your team. The department has close teaching and training links to the East Midland Deanery and has a number of middle grade and junior trainees working within the team.
Main duties of the job
The department are happy to consider candidates with any obstetric special interest. However, the time-table will also involve a regular commitment to the gestational diabetes clinic.
The successful candidate will be working with a team of 3 other Fetal Medicine specialist, particularly working as a pair with one colleague. The team will take clinical responsibility of a defined cohort of patients both as outpatients and inpatients. There will be support from dedicated team of Specialist Midwives for Prenatal Diagnosis and counselling.
The department will develop job plan with the successful candidate and is willing to support further training to enhance their skills with Fetal medicine scanning with regular sessions at Tertiary Centre.
The successful candidate will be acting as the Lead Obstetrician for Saving Babies Life Care Bundle FGR Element and responsible for working towards CNST and Ockenden compliance. This role will be supported by a dedicated Specialist Midwife. This responsibility attracts additional PA to the basic Job Plan.
The department develops job plans that follows RCOG recommendations with respect to no Clinical Commitments post on call, SPA allocation, admin work, Training and supervision etc.
The Consultant should participate in Clinical Supervision, teaching and training of undergraduate medical students and post graduate trainees.

DCC predictable 0.8 PA, (consisting of Friday evening 5-8pm cover 1 in8 and
Saturday and Sunday 8am-1pm cover 1 in 8 as part of weekend on call) unpredictable 1PA.
On call work is Band A

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

- Entry on the Specialist Register in Acute Medicine (or entry expected within 6 months from the date of interview
- MRCOG or appropriate specialist registration
- Relevant CCT or equivalent ('equivalence' must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC*
