Senior Clinical Fellow in Frailty Outreach

( ST3+ Level)

We are pleased to offer an opportunity in Geriatric Frailty Medicine in one of the country's largest acute NHS Trusts.

Whipps Cross University Hospital is part of Barts Health NHS Trust and is situated in Waltham Forest, North East London. The hospital serves a diverse local population of more than 350,000.

Our department is undergoing a period of expansion and service development in conjunction with the local health economy to provide a first class service to our local population both in and outside of Whipps Cross University Hospital.

The service currently supplies inpatient services including Acute Geriatrics, Acute Frailty Service, Orthogeriatrics, Surgical liaison.
Main duties of the job

The post offers an exciting opportunity to join a growing team and to develop new models of care with our growing Rapid Access Frailty Team (RAFT), the Falls SDEC pathway, in reach in Acute Assessment areas, and input into the care of frail older patients attending Whipps Cross Emergency Department. Whipps Cross Hospital serves a diverse local population living with high levels of frailty, and is expanding its Acute Frailty Service. This post provides an unique opportunity for working in both the hospital acute frailty setting and the community acute frailty services.

Within the job plan, a weekly full day of protected time is offered to pursue opportunities related to research, quality improvement, leadership & management or education.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Full GMC Registration with license to practice
Desirable
  • Progression towards MRCP or Equivalent Specialist qualification
  • Higher qualifications in Geriatric Medicine or related disciplines
Experience
Essential
  • Broad experience in Geriatrics and G(I)M
  • Current ALS certificate
  • Previous NHS experience
Desirable
  • Experience in Frailty/Interface Geriatrics
Knowledge
Essential
  • Detailed knowledge of Geriatrics and G(I)M and of the specialist skills required for this post
  • Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit and demonstrable commitment to improving quality of care to patients
  • Understanding of modern medical curricula and commitment to life-long learning
Desirable
  • Relevant courses related to Frailty and/or Service Development
Skills
Essential
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to teach medical students and junior medical and nursing staff
  • Ability to manage staff and resources effectively

  • Experience in Clinical Pathway development
  • Evidence of participation in research (peer reviewed publications etc.)
