Bart's Health comprises of Whipps Cross University Hospital, Newham University Hospital, Mile End Hospital, St Bartholomew's Hospital and The Royal London. Within the structure of the new trust there is an Education Academy. Barts Health has four dedicated Medical Education, Simulation and Clinical Skills facilities. We take medical students from Queen Mary University, as well as overseas students. Teaching methods include problem-based learning, lectures, teaching clinics, part task training, full immersion simulation training and bedside teaching

There is a real need to ensure that students and trainees within Barts Health continue to receive excellent tuition and that trainees have the best possible educational supervision. In line with the academy's education strategy, we intend to improve education by building a Trainee Teaching Faculty made up of Specialty Teaching Fellows who contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate training. The post holder will have the opportunity to work across sites with other education fellows. From August 2020, all fellows joining our team have been invited to join our Education Forum where fellows have access to a structured development programme.
Main duties of the job

Enthusiasm for teaching is a prerequisite, but no prior formal knowledge of educational theory or practice is required. Educational responsibilities will include bedside teaching of undergraduate students and postgraduate trainees.

As a simulation facilitator the fellow will play a role in delivering the generic professional and clinical skills training for Foundation Programme, Core Programmes and Speciality trainee's doctors. S/he will also be actively engaged in simulation course planning, delivery, educational management and educational governance. Part-task & high fidelity simulation training is delivered to undergraduate (medical) students, Foundation Programme doctors, Internal Medical Trainees & Specialist Registrars. Multi-professional, in-situ training will form part of the educational activity. Faculty development (Introduction to Debriefing and Simulation Skills) simulation courses are also established.

These regular and significant learning opportunities will be supported and observed by senior educators and provide unique opportunities for feedback of teaching micro-skills. Educational supervision and mentoring by members of the Department of Education will encourage the Fellow to develop skills in teaching and a deeper understanding of underpinning educational theoretical frameworks.
