Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist (WiC & Community) - 10PAs - Permanent
South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) has an exciting opportunity and is looking to recruit a Substantive Consultant Psychiatrist for Ward in Community & Lambeth / Southwark Community Forensic Service.
The post is based with Ward in the Community (WiC), a locked forensic rehabilitation ward, and input into Lambeth or Southwark Community Forensic Team(s) . The job plan includes 10 PAs including 2.5 sessions for CPD activities. There is an active teaching programme conducted for the Forensic Division at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience on Friday mornings and the successful applicant would be encouraged to participate. In addition, there are opportunities to teach psychiatrists-in-training and medical students.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will cover Ward in the Community (WiC) and have a community caseload at Lambeth or Southwark Community forensic mental health services. We provide services to a diverse community of very marginalized people. The post holder is expected to have good understanding of mental health inequality and be ready to engage in systems to address this.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Ward in the Community (WiC): This is a 13-bedded male locked forensic rehabilitation ward at Lambeth Hospital. It is the only non-secure forensic inpatient ward in SLAM and provides an important bridge between secure services and community services, focusing on treatment with ‘least restriction’, ‘testing out’ and ‘positive risk taking’.
Lambeth Community Forensic Team: This specialist forensic team provides community care to a current caseload of approximately 200 patients. The team is based on the Lambeth Hospital site. The post holder will have a caseload of approximately 20-25 patients, many of whom are under Ministry of Justice ((MoJ) restriction orders. The post holder will also provide some liaison and support to general psychiatry services seeking advice about forensic services
Southwark Community Forensic Team: This specialist forensic team provides community care to a current caseload of approximately 200 patients. The team is based on the Lambeth Hospital site and has outpatient clinics at the Maudsley Hospital site. The post holder will have a caseload of approximately 20-25 patients, many of whom are under Ministry of Justice (MoJ) restriction orders. The post holder will also provide some liaison and support to general psychiatry services seeking advice about forensic services
