Specialty Doctor in Old Age Psychiatry
Salary: £54,903 - £85,554
Location: Ailsa Hospital
Applications are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor in Old Age Psychiatry.
Following the retirement of the incumbent doctor, we are looking to recruit a permanent Specialty Doctor in Old Age Psychiatry in the South Ayrshire Locality. Serving a population of about 13,500 Older people in a mixed urban and rural catchment area, the successful applicant will work with a consultant colleague in delivering a comprehensive mental health service for older people in one of the six localities in NHS Ayrshire and Arran.
The post will be based at Ailsa Hospital, where the Community Mental Health Team for the Elderly and NHS Complex Clinical Care beds are located. Acute inpatients are in the new purpose-built facility at Woodland View unit at Ayrshire Central Hospital in Irvine. The successful applicant will have ward doctor responsibility for a shared proportion of these inpatient beds. A degree of cross cover is expected with the other Specialty Doctor in Old Age Psychiatry who is also based at Ailsa Hospital.
Participation in the out of hour’s rota is not required.
NHS Ayrshire & Arran serves the local authorities of South Ayrshire, East Ayrshire and North Ayrshire with a total population of approximately 365,000.
Ayrshire is a peaceful and charming place to work, with easy access by road from Glasgow. Many staff choose to live within Ayrshire where good schools and easy access local beaches are just two of its many attractions, which also include a large variety of shopping and entertainment facilities.
The appointment will be subject to the terms and conditions of service of the Specialty Doctor contract.
Appropriately experienced applicants must have full registration and current Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Registrar.
The applicant would be expected to drive and have access to a car, as the post is geographically spread out and may include domiciliary visits in rural locations not well served by public transport.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Mark Luty, Clinical Director Community Elderly Mental Health on Mark.Luty@aapct.scot.nhs.uk or 01292 513981.
