2024 Statewide Resident Medical Officer Recruitment Campaign

Department of Health

The Resident Medical Officer (RMO) is responsible for the day-to-day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the Hospital (or rural facility). Provide after-hours emergency cover as determined by the relevant work unit. Rotations to Rural Practice sites across the state are available.

Salary

$79,578 to $89,709 pro rata per annum + 10.5% superannuation + access to salary packaging

  • Salary range is in accordance with Salaried Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019
  • *Please note that Salaried Medical Practitioners Agreement is currently under negotiation

Period of Employment

Fixed-term, full-time (and part-time hours available), working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing 15 January 2024 to 13 January 2025. (Please note opportunity for 48-month appointments may arise from this selection process)

Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) are fully rotational (with the exception of 12month ED). RHH Emergency Medicine RMO positions 12-month (non-rotational)

RHH offer 12-month non-rotational RMO position in ED.  The ED RMO positions can be selected under the RHH training stream preferences section in this application form.

RHH Basic Physician Training (BPT) positions

RMOs who select their preference for a RHH BPT placement in this online application form will be considered for the BPT program once successfully obtaining a RHH RMO position through applying to the Statewide RMO Recruitment Campaign.

Allocations are personalised to meet the career goals of individual RMOs.  Streams include Basic Physician Training, Surgery/Orthopaedics, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, General Practice and the Rural Generalist Pathway. Other opportunities include (but are not limited to) support for Certificate or Diploma courses, teaching and research opportunities.

THS – North West also welcome applications from PGY2+ International Medical Graduates holding (or eligible for) Limited or Provisional Registration with Medical Board of Australia, and provide exceptional support to allow you to meet the requirements for progression to General Registration.

Resident Medical Officers working at Hospitals North West are expected to be able to travel between NWRH and MCH and undertake shift work, as required for service provision.

  • Critical Care foundation year - Emergency Department/Intensive Care Unit/Anaesthetics a combination of 3-month and 6-month rotations  
  • Surgical training pathways -  Colorectal/Upper Gastrointestinal/Breast & Endocrine/Orthopaedics/Urology/Plastics/ENT
  • Paediatric and O&G foundation year - 3-month and 6-month rotations available for preferencing
  • General Practice  rotations - St Helens or Scottsdale

Medical rotations: 

Renal, Respiratory, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Oncology, Haematology, General Medicine A, B, C & D

Surgical rotations: 

Plastics/ENT/Ophthalmology, Colorectal, Orthopaedics, Urology, Upper Gastrointestinal, Breast & Endocrine

Other rotations include:

Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Anaesthetics, ICU, ED, and General Surgery.
