Main duties of the job

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAH) is looking to appoint x3 Trust grade doctors to work within Emergency Medicine.

The successful candidate will work at Princess Alexandra Hospital, within the Emergency Department (ED) which has approximately 105,000 attendances per annum of which 25% are children. The Emergency Department is located at the front of the hospital and has recently undergone a number of changes such as an innovative Urgent Treatment Centre, a Respiratory Emergency Department (RED) to meet the demands of the Covid-19 pandemic and an extended Resuscitation Room with dedicated radiology facilities.
About us

The department offers dedicated weekly teaching every Wednesday and Thursday afternoons (Wednesdays for Juniors and Thursdays for Seniors).

The teaching programme is based on the RCEM curriculum, chaired by the Consultants and speakers from outside of the ED. The Junior and SeniorDoctors have protected time to actively participate in these departmental teachings and to develop their teaching and training skills. There is ample clinical teaching and support on the shop-floor from the senior Registrars and the Consultants. Our previous Trust Grade ST1-2 Doctors have successfully progressed and secured placements in training posts. The Post Graduate and Resuscitation teams at PAH run various teaching and training programmes across the year which the successful candidate iswelcome to participate and contribute. There are dedicated Simulation sessions for ED staff conducted by Resuscitation team and ED Consultants. ALS and EPALS are periodically organised within the Trust.

The Trust is committed to the development and progression of all its Junior Doctors. The Emergency Department will support and encourage the Junior Doctors in their education and training although this is not a training post. In return the Department expects the post holder to adhere to the Trustsvalues, policies and internal professional standards at all times to ensure patient safety and smooth running of the department.

Qualifications
Essential

  • Eligible for full GMC registration and hold a current licence to practise
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Evidence of achievement of foundation competences from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent

Desirable

 

  • Previous experience in NHS
  • Experience at CT1/SHO level in Emergency Medicine/Acute Medicine/ITU or equivalent

Experience

  • Competent in history taking, examination and initial management of acute presentations
  • Able to recognise acutely ill patients and prioritise appropriately
  • Demonstrates understanding of the principles of Audit, Quality improvement and evidence based medicine
  • ALS (provider) or equivalent
