We are seeking to appoint 1 Consultant Gastroenterologist as part of departmental expansion and continued development of specialised services, and to help support more efficient outpatient service delivery and reduce diagnostic backlogs. This post is a new post in the department and represent an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and growing department practising from a state-of-the-art University hospital. The successful candidates will be expected to have or develop a sub-specialty interest in Nutrition/IF, IBD, or Endoscopy to complement existing team, and to share their expertise in supporting and developing a forward-thinking service. In particular, we are looking for a consultant with an interest in nutrition/IF to help support delivery of SIF services as part of recent specialised commissioning.
Main duties of the job

You will:
  • Take responsibility for patients under your care.
  • Provide a consultation service and advisory service to other clinical colleagues in other specialities within the Trust and Primary Care.
  • Participate in the development of the gastroenterology service, treatment protocols and guidelines and the greater knowledge in the management of gastroenterology conditions.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialities and participate in regular clinical meetings and other post graduate activities.
  • Take responsibility for the professional supervision and development of trainee doctors within the speciality, including the appraisal of F2's and SpRs, and the Certificates of Satisfaction in respect of F1's.
  • Demonstrate a firm involvement in Clinical Governance, Risk Management and Clinical Audit - including the development and maintenance of appropriate systems and practices to ensure continued safe clinical practice, and regular attendance at the Gastro QIPS meeting.
  • Ensure own practice is up to date this includes responsibility for own Clinical Professional Development and participating in the Trust's Performance and Annual Review system.
  • Share responsibility for data protection arising out of the use of computers.
  • Comply with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures.
