Derriford Hospital provides gynaecological oncology services, along with Royal Cornwall Hospital, as the West Peninsula Gynaecology Cancer Service for a catchment of approx. 1m in the Southwest peninsula.Each hospital treats approximately 180 new patients each year. A weekly video-linked multi-disciplinary team meeting discusses all new cases and cases of recurrent disease in both hospitals.
Main duties of the job
University Hospitals Plymouth is now using pioneering robotic technology to carry out some Gynae cancer surgery. There are three to four gynaecology routine oncology lists per week, with strong links with colorectal, plastics and urological services. Laparoscopic surgery is well established as the routine treatment of endometrial, early-stage cervical cancer, and early-stage ovarian cancer, being and an important component of the Enhanced Recovery programme.

We provide comprehensive training and education for a wide range of healthcare professionals. The Trust works in partnership with both Plymouth University Peninsula Medical School of Medicine and Dentistry and the University of Exeter Medical School.
We also support the Universities of Plymouth and Exeter in the delivery of courses for the Faculty of Health and Social Work. With university campuses in Plymouth, Exeter, Truro and Taunton, along with teaching facilities in Bristol, the Faculty of Health and Social Work is one of the largest providers of nursing, midwifery, social work and health professional education and training in the South West.

An opportunity has arisen at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust for a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist within the Womens and Childrens Care Group with the subspecialty of gynaecological oncology. This post will be appointed on the national contract terms and conditions.
Applicants are expected to be excellent clinicians with evidence of additional skills within the subspecialist area but with a focus on surgical, research and leadership skills.
This post is programmed for 10 PAs with an optional (depending on Departmental requirements) general gynaecological on-call component of approximately 1 in 8.

- Full GMC registration as a Subspecialist Gynae Oncologist
- MRCOG (UK or equivalent, 'equivalence' must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of AAC)
- National/International reputation, Other medical qualifications, Experience outside specialty, An appropriate medical education qualification

- Evidence of a research interest and clinical audit
