Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Neurologist based at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for a colleague with broad Neurology expertise to join a department of two other Consultants. The successful candidate will join two colleagues within the Neurology department who are supported by a specialist nursing team.

The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust is a medium-sized district general hospital, with an integral cancer centre (St. Lukes Cancer Centre). It serves a population of 320,000 for emergency and general services, and 1.2 million people for cancer services. Currently, the Neurology department consists of 3 Consultant Neurologists, a Consultant Neurophysiologist, and associated support personnel.

We are seeking an ambitious individual to help to develop/lead Neurological services within the general hospital and the cancer centre, and to further develop the academic partnership with the adjacent University of Surrey. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the generic Neurology service, and to develop a relevant subspecialty interest.

Main duties of the job

In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to provide a comprehensive acute and outpatient Neurology Service.

To provide cover for Consultant and Senior colleagues in respect of periods of leave.

In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.

In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.

To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.

Job responsibilities

This post is for a Locum Consultant Neurologist based at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust in Guildford, Surrey. This is a new post created to further develop the Neurology service within the Trust, to meet the increasing demands for outpatient Neurology, and to maintain/enhance inpatient Neurology for patients within the district general hospital and the associated cancer centre (St. Lukes Cancer Centre).

Sub-specialist interests are welcomed, particularly in Acute Neurology, Multiple Sclerosis, but also in Parkinsons, Headache, Epilepsy and Movement Disorders.

The job is a full time post comprising 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), which includes 8 PAs of DCC activity and 2 PAs of SPA activity. Candidates who wish to work a different number of programmed activities to that specified in the current job plan will be considered for this post, with negotiation on the content of the job plan on an individual basis.

  • CCT (CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview date)

The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust is a multi-site acute and community Trust, based in Guildford, which serves a population of more than 336,000 across south west Surrey.
