Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for two people to join the Medical Director's Team in Kettering General Hospital as Deputy Medical Directors. I am looking for a committed, high quality medical leader to compliment the clinical and senior leadership teams. One post will focus on Urgent and Emergency Care and the other on Planned Care and will enhance our overall clinical leadership and commitment to patient care . I am keen for someone to join the team who can evidence what they have done to be able to successfully deliver these roles and evidence how they will deliver it.

The person I would like to appoint will be someone who is committed to improving and strengthening an inclusive culture within KGH, where colleagues can speak up and be involved in shared decision making. A strategic aim of the Trust is to make it a truly clinically led organisation with a leadership team that reflects the communities we serve. As such, you will be a compassionate and inclusive leader who listens and who is responsive.

Main duties of the job

Urgent and Emergency Care:

The post is designed to strengthen and improve the operational links between the Corporate Medical, Operational and Divisional teams and the Integrated Care System in the delivery of effective urgent and emergency care services coveringthe whole of the patient pathway from referral to discharge. This will involve the understanding of existing pathways and how these may be changed to better meet the challenges of today's NHS.

Planned Care:

The post is designed to strengthen and improve the operational links between the Corporate Medical, Operational and Divisional teams and the Integrated Care System to improve planned care pathways, ensuring that patients receive appropriate, efficient and timely management.

You will be expected to have significant experience in Medical Management and be able to demonstrate a track record of dynamic and innovative leadership; be comfortable working with complexity; and have experience of working across organisational boundaries. You should have experience of overseeing & delivering transformational programmes to redesign care pathways and improve productivity within clinical services.

You will be given appropriate support and commitment from your colleagues and further development opportunities will be available.

The roles will attract between 5 and 10 PAs dependant on the circumstances.

The posts are open to all medical qualified applicants with suitable knowledge, skills and experience.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Full GMC registration and holds a license to practice.
  • Member/Fellow of appropriate Royal College
  • Consultant or equivalent level of senior medical experience in secondary care
  • Evidence of continuing professional & personal development as a clinical leader
Desirable
  • Leadership/management qualification or higher Quality Governance training
Knowledge
Essential
  • Experience in Medical Management with a demonstrable track record of successful clinical leadership in a complex healthcare organisation
  • Demonstrable track record of achievement in the quality and patient safety arena and patient experience
  • Experience of leading service and/or transformational change
  • Experience of the management of complex projects
Desirable
  • Experience of overseeing medical job planning, appraisal and clinical assessment
  • Evidence of working across organisational boundaries at a system level to deliver transformational change.
  • Experience of working with patients and the public to enhance and develop patient pathways.
  • Experience of effective collaborative working across the professions, the healthcare system and external stakeholders
  • Experience in acting as a MHPS Case Investigator/Manager
