Applications are invited for the post of NHS Locum Consultant General/Colorectal Surgeon at South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust, for a term of 12 months. This post is to commence in August 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter and is to cover a sabbatical. The post attracts 10 PAs (additional PAs may be negotiable) and will include an on-call commitment for emergency general surgery (currently 1 in 8). For full details of the post please see the job description at NHS jobs. The post is based at Warwick Hospital with some clinics held at Stratford upon Avon Hospital if required.

Main duties of the job

The job plan is calculated over an 8 week rolling timetable (this may be subject to change if additional appointment(s) decrease the frequency of on call).The post holder will be required to cover the administration work and manage the follow up patients for the consultant on sabbatical.

This job plan will be worked subject to the needs of the service and subject to annual review via the job planning process.

Job responsibilities

This post is a one year locum to cover the sabbatical of one of our substantive consultants. The post-holder will be an experienced general and colorectal surgeon.

The post-holder will be expected to perform lower GI endoscopy, proctology and to contribute to the general surgical workload, including laparoscopic cholecystectomy. During the duration of this locum post training in robotic surgery will be concentrated among the existing substantive consultant team. Opportunities for colorectal cancer resections may be available to the appointee depending on their experience and the needs of the service.

Outpatient clinics take place at both Warwick and Stratford Hospital. They currently include a mix of face to face and telephone appointments.
