Job Details

It is an exciting time to join this team, as we work to implement our Ageing Well and Frailty Strategy across the Guilford and Waverley healthcare system. Our Acute Frailty Service is among the best in the country and the strategy has supported us in developing a Frailty Same Day Emergency Care facility, direct conveyance to this unit by working in partnership with local Ambulance services, a Geriatrician of the Day model providing acute clinical triage and a Hospital at Home service. Opportunities exist to rotate through all of these pathways and prospective cover is within budget. The MICH hub was developed during the pandemic and looks to support neighbourhood teams with standardised CGA assessment. We are looking to work with system partners to risk stratify older people living with frailty, to proactively offer CGA to them and to integrate with locality based MDTs.

All new posts will contribute to our Frailty Academy which has been running since 2021 and has embedded frailty training across the organisation and local system, including the development of the a trainee ACP programme and an internal CESR programme. We recently won a bid to expand the academy and to help develop a strategic workforce plan fit to meet the needs of an ageing population.

We attract referrals from across the country for some specialties including urology. Our Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit (key-hole surgery) is one of only three such training units in the UK. Our patients also benefit from state of the art diagnostic equipment including two MRI scanners, four CT scanners, interventional radiology equipment and a gamma camera. We have one of the lowest mortality rates in the country.

We employ around 4,200 members of staff making us one of Guildford’s largest employers. In addition, the hospital is supported by a thriving group of 500 volunteers all of whom provide valuable services on an independent, voluntary basis.

We have a great reputation and history of embracing quality improvement (QI) and transformation work – continuously improving is one of our core values.

The Trust has strong links with the nearby University of Surrey and staff are well supported if they wish to undertake further study. As well as this, staff are able to develop and enhance skills and knowledge by undertaking post-qualification support and training at the hospital’s dedicated Education Centre

Situated on a green field site on the outskirts of Guildford, the Trust has excellent rail and road links (via the A3 and M25) to London (35 minutes) and to the south coast (35 minutes).
