 Consultant Community Paediatrician (10PAs)

We are seeking two 10 PA Consultant Community Paediatricians to join the Community Paediatrics Service at Nottingham Children’s Hospital.

The post holder will be an integral part of Nottingham Children’s Hospital Community Paediatric team, supporting delivery of services for Children in Care at the Child Development Centre (CDC) and from  one or more locality clinics within the Greater Nottinghamshire area (Nottingham City and South Nottinghamshire County). There is also contribution to the daytime safeguarding rota/clinics for suspected non-accidental injuries supported by senior paediatricians.

Applicants must be on the GMC specialist register, or within 6 months of their expected date of CCT at time of interview.

Please note this job description has not yet received Royal College approval and may be subject to change based on their advice.

Please see the attached job description for an outline of the service and indicative job plan.

The bulk of the Community Paediatric clinic work is carried out in six geographical patches, plus the Child Development Centre, and each patch team is led by a consultant who also carries district wide responsibilities.  We also have close working with allied health including some joint clinics.  Together, the team provide comprehensive general and specialist community child health services including paediatric referral clinics (GP referral) in all the main health centres, and work within local specialist schools.  There are close links with primary care teams, education, and the Child and Adolescent Mental Health team who cover the same area.

Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) was established in 2006 and we are one of the biggest and busiest NHS Trusts in the country and provide services to over 2.5 million residents of Nottingham.

NUH are, by any measure, a large, complex, person-centred organisation.  With over 17,000 employees from a wide range of professional backgrounds, they are one of the region’s largest employers.

NUH has an excellent national and international reputation for the quality of their patient care and for their research, education and innovation. They have strong links to the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and Loughborough University. This allows for the provision of excellent training and education for their students, as well as being a major research organisation.

For information about the Trust, including business plans, annual reports, and services, visit their website.

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust have various staff benefits. Some of the benefits of working for NUH include;

  • Access to the Staff Wellbeing programme including our 24hour staff advice and emotional support service, financial advice service, a staff physiotherapy service and staff support networks
  • Access to Spiritual and Pastoral Care Services
  • Salary sacrifice schemes
  • Cycle to work and travel passes
  • NHS discounts
  • Flexible working

Details of these and other benefits can be found on our intranet pages which you will have access when you commence with Team NUH.

Whilst main clinics may have set days, other activities are more variable and flexible and so the exact time and day of the week may vary according to demand or your existing commitments.  Flexible working from home is possible for some activities and a laptop with remote secure access to hospital systems will be provided.

Both posts include scope for developing exciting roles involving specialist skills and interests, and these are detailed in the individual job plans below.  Appropriate training and support to undertake these roles would be provided.  Candidates wishing to expand their interests in specialist safeguarding or assessment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) would be particularly encouraged.  Other possibilities for special interest include Down syndrome, neurodisability, sleep, hearing pathway, sexual assault, children in care/looked after, or another area that the candidate wishes to explore and that meets with service objectives.

Less than full time applications are welcome, but core DCC elements of the role must be included in the final agreed job plan.
