Job description

Want to make a difference to Local Lives?

If you are a new or experienced Consultant in Palliative Medicine, or a Registrar within six months of receiving your CCT, or even a Consultant Physician in a related specialty, coming to St Wilfrid’s could be your perfect next step.

Based on the sunny South Coast of England, St Wilfrid’s Hospice is an independent charity supporting a catchment area population of 200,000 with end of life and palliative care.

From our purpose-built Hospice in Bosham, West Sussex, our team of 250 staff and 450 volunteers care for over 325 local people at any one time. Since opening in 1987, St Wilfrid’s has had over 20,000 referrals and supported over 60,000 local people experiencing life limiting or terminal illness.

St Wilfrid’s Hospice is an independent charity, and receives a small grant from the NHS. The majority of our funding comes from our community, supporting the Hospice’s vital services through fundraising, donations and shopping in our 12 charity shops.

Our Recruitment Pack has lots more information on the Hospice, our values and our impact.

Being a Palliative Medicine Consultant at St Wilfrid’s

In this role you’ll have the time to care, and the opportunity to innovate and lead with compassion, collaboration and excellence.

We are at the forefront of palliative care, and our new Consultant will have the opportunity to provide clinical leadership and participate in research, education and service development.

Clinical care will be delivered on the inpatient unit and in the community, including outpatients.

There are also close working relationships with the local hospital teams and there is flexibility to evolve the job plan to suit the successful applicant.

We are keen to hear from specialists in areas such as elderly medicine or respiratory medicine who might be interested in working in a hospice setting.

“I think this is the best job I’ve ever had. The main thing working here is you’ve got time to build up relationships with your patient, and you’ve got time to do their care more properly and thoroughly”
