We are delighted to advertise this acute inpatient consultant psychiatrist at Roseberry Park Hospital. This post is full-time but we would welcome conversations with potential applicants regarding flexible working options. It is a post which offers variety, clinical challenge and strong team working. Successful applicants would join a motivated, experienced and supportive multi-disciplinary inpatient team which also includes SAS doctors and multi-professional Approved Clinicians. The post holder would also work alongside a number of other consultant psychiatrists within the service which offers the opportunity for regular peer support and collective approaches to patient care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will act as Responsible Clinician for In Patients admitted under care in the ward (responsibility shared with paired Consultant).

The Consultants will jointly chair the 24 hour Morning Report Out meeting when decisions are made about patient care and the management plan, risk and leave arrangements are reviewed. Tasks are allocated at the meeting and reviewed the following morning.

The Consultant will attend and fully contribute to the 72 formulation meeting and discharge planning meetings for their own patients.

The post holder will be expected to provide appropriate supervision to Junior Medical Staff.

The post holder will be expected to liaise with community teams and Consultants.

Clinical Knowledge & Skills
Essential

  • Excellent knowledge of specialty.
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others.

Teaching & Training
Essential

  • Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.

Desirable

  • Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications.

CPD & Appraisal
Essential

  • Participated in continuous professional development.
  • Evidence of annual appraisal and commitment to appraisal and revalidation.

Research, Audit & Quality Improvement
Essential

  • Participated in research or service evaluation.
  • Has actively participated in clinical audit.

Desirable

  • Shows commitment to quality through knowledge of quality improvement and lean thinking methodology OR able to achieve within one year of appointment.

Qualifications
Essential

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within 6 months of gaining CCT in General Adult Psychiatry

Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • MRCPsych.
  • Additional qualifications.
  • Approved Clinician Status and Section 12 Status OR be able to achieve within 3 months.
