Job overview - Barts Health - Education Academy Fellow - Undergraduates Main base at Newham University Hospital

Two posts are available The Education Academy within Barts Health is expanding in response to the need with increasing numbers of students and trainees and commitment to offer the best educational experience for our trainees. There is a real need to ensure that students receive excellent tuition and that trainees have the best possible educational supervision. In line with our Education Strategy, we intend to improve education by building an Education Fellow faculty base made up of Specialty Teaching Fellows who contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate training, and support Inter-professional Innovations.

The post would typically be taken as an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) from their specialist training programme or in-between training programmes. Where required, prior agreement must be sought with the relevant Specialty Training Committee (STC). There is no commitment to look after general internal medicine (GIM) or diabetes and endocrinology in-patients. The post does not involve out-of-hours, night or weekend general medical on-call commitments. The post holder will be allocated a clinical and educational supervisor.

Main duties of the job

The successful post holder for this post will be involved primarily with developing educational opportunities for undergraduate medical students through a wide range of teaching modalities including simulation based training, clinical skills, lectures, teaching clinics, a bedside teaching. The post holder will have the opportunity to work across sites with other education fellows supporting activity at our other centres and will support the delivery of Simulation based training opportunities to other specialties and support the distributive simulation agenda.

The post holder would be responsible for their own personal development plan, with regards to both service and educational work. Regular appraisal must be undertaken with their clinical supervisor and Simulation Lead Specialist. The post holder will work closely with the Associate Director of Simulation to identify Educational Deliverables.

The post is covered by the Terms and Conditions of Service of Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England and Wales), as amended from time to time.
