This is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly Paediatric team at Blackpool Teaching Hospital. We are a team of 15 WTE consultants, delivering integrated care to Blackpool and the Fylde coast. We are keen to find someone with a Neonatal interest, to continue to develop our Neonatal unit (level 2). The post is also an excellent opportunity for those with recent CCST or approaching CCST to be supported in developing a neonatal interest. The trust also offers a programme to new consultants that includes a well-designed leadership development programme that offers much consolidation of new skills to a recent CCST recipient. There is excellent support from the trust for those going through the CESR process and the trust has a designated CESR lead. Whilst this is a 10 PA post being advertised, part-time candidates are encouraged to also apply.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering patient care to both Neonates and Paediatrics, with allocated time in their job plan for the neonatal lead role and a weekly clinical session on the Neonatal Unit. The post involves a 1 in 9 Consultant of the Week rota, being responsible for patients under their direct care, and also those patients under consultant colleagues having current inpatient care. On call is non-resident 1 in 6 (1 in 9 weekends)
The Neonatal lead role will involve working collaboratively with the matron for the neonatal unit, and Obstetric and Maternity colleagues, including being part of the Optimisation Team. Duties will also include attendance at Neonatal network meetings (NWODN), Clinical effectiveness, Mortality meetings, audit meetings, and to provide medical input to support the Trust Governance meetings e.g Incident and Case reviews. The lead will also be expected to review NWODN data and guidelines and feedback / communicate to the team regarding any new guidelines and pathways.

You are responsible for the associated duties set out in schedule 2 of the Terms and Conditions. These include amongst other things a requirement to:-

- Collaborate with colleagues in primary and secondary care to implement protocols for the management of patients.
- Keep up to date with the developments in the specialty. It is expected that active consideration will be given to existing technologies in terms of cost effectiveness. In addition, the use of the new techniques where they can be justified clinically will be encouraged. Conforming to state of the art advances will ultimately depend on other priorities within the total unit.
- Contribute to post-graduate and continuing medical education. The Trust supports the requirement of CME/CDP as laid down by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.
