We have an exciting opportunity to appoint a substantive Consultant in Palliative Medicine The post is for 6 programmed activities (PA) and will replace a pre existing post.
St. George's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Palliative Care Team provides a specialist advisory service to a large teaching hospital. These posts will offer excellent opportunities for clinical care and teaching across the hospital combined with the opportunity to be part of a well established comprehensive Specialist Palliative Care Service. There will also be an opportunity for participation in StR training, audit, research and management experience.
Main duties of the job
Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Registrar for Palliative Medicine or within 6 months of their CCT at the time of the interview. All successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced CRB disclosure

Job responsibilities
- Provide consultant support to the hospital palliative care team at St Georges University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (in conjunction with consultant colleagues).
- Take part in the second on-call rota with the other consultants to enable continuous senior cover for the junior medical staff on-call.
- Participate and contribute to audit, research and clinical governance activities.
- Participate and strengthen the continuing professional development educational programme.
- Participate in managerial responsibilities.
- Deputise functions of the Palliative Medicine Specialty Lead as required, including liaison with the Care Group Lead.
- Develop and maintain liaison between professional organisations, regionally and nationally.
- Provide leadership and guidance for the professional development of Specialist Registrars in Palliative Medicine and provide clinical supervision for the Specialist Registrar Rotation for Palliative Medicine.
- Contribute to the teaching of medical undergraduates and postgraduate professionals.
