Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Emergency Surgeon to join the Surgical Department at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust based at North Devon District Hospital (NDDH). The ideal applicant will have experience of the full range of emergency surgery, with an interest in developing emergency pathways. The ideal applicant will also have an interest in a sub-speciality e.g. Colorectal or Upper GI. The post will join a dynamic team that has expanded over recent years, including three colorectal consultants, four upper GI consultants, three emergency general surgical consultants and three breast consultants, providing care for patients at NDDH and across Community Hospitals.
Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council with licence to practice and be eligible for inclusion on the GMCs Specialist Register (or expected entry within six months from the date of interview).
Located in the South West of England, North Devon is recognised as an area of outstanding natural beauty. It extends from the edge of Exmoor in the east to Lundy Island in the west and the Taw Valley in the south providing contrasts of moor land, downs, valleys, rugged cliffs and golden sandy beaches, thus providing a range of interests and activities.

The successful applicant will be expected to support the development of the emergency surgical department. It is essential that candidates have sub-specialty training in either emergency general, Upper GI or colorectal surgery, including advanced laparoscopic skills. There may be opportunity to develop robotic surgery in the near future. Endoscopic skills are essential with requirement for the candidate to have JAG accreditation or equivalent experience in Upper GI Endoscopy.
