Clinical Fellow in Hand Surgery -Based in the Orthopaedic hand department: FRCS(Orth) or FRCS(Plast) essential
12 Months Fixed Term (October 2023 to September 2024, an earlier start may be possible)
The Hand Team within the Orthopaedic Department at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire is looking to appoint a Clinical Fellow for a period of up to 1 year commencing in October 2023.
The successful candidate will work as part of the Orthopaedic Hand Team during the day to provide care for elective and trauma patients in the theatre, ward and clinic scenarios. The candidate is expected to hold FRCS(Orth) or FRCS(Plast) or equivalent.
Main duties of the job
Duties will also include:
As well as experience in the generality of orthopaedics hand surgery, the department can offer specific exposure to hand trauma in Plastic Surgery.
The position is intended for post-FRCS trainees who intend to pursue a career in Hand Surgery and the BSSH Hand Diploma is supported in this post.

- Elective and Trauma Operating sessions (supervised training lists and independent lists)
- Elective and Hand trauma outpatient clinics
- Pre-operative preparation and post operative care of patients
- Leading and participating in ward rounds
- Active involvement in the training and supervision of Junior Medical Staff on ward rounds, in theatre and in clinics, including the teaching of medical and nursing students.
- Participation in departmental audit and research
