Job Details

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic consultant community paediatrician in Newport following re-allocation of roles within the community paediatric team. Desk space is available in Serennu Children's Centre with office accommodation and secretarial support at the Royal Gwent Hospital.

Applicants without a driving license must be able to travel between health board premises within a reasonable timescale to fulfil the requirements of the post. Free parking is available across all our sites.

Both Cardiff and Bristol are within 30 minutes' drive from Newport, and the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains and Gower Peninsula are all easily accessible for great recreational opportunities.

Main duties of the job

You will have General Community Paediatric responsibilities including assessment of Neurodevelopmental disorders and Child Development and Disability, working within the ISCAN (Integrated Services for Children with Additional Needs) team in south Gwent, along with 3 other consultants and an associate specialist.

You will contribute to the pan Gwent Child Protection Rota (Monday - Friday only, with no out of hours responsibilities) at The Grange University Hospital. For appropriately qualified applicants there will be opportunity to contribute to the local colposcopy rota, undertaking examinations at Nevill Hall Children's Centre in Abergavenny.

This position involves Regulated Activity with children as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:

Applicants must hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC

Candidates for Consultant posts must also be on the GMC Specialist Register (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR(CP)date within 6 months of interview.
