Job Details
Suitable applicants are invited to apply for the post of Senior Breast Oncoplastic Fellow. This is in the first instance a one-year position with the possibility of an extension. The job is based at the Peony Breast Care Unit, Llanelli and is for candidates who are interested in completing their specialist registration in breast surgery through the CESR pathway.
The candidate will join breast and visiting plastic colleagues in a dynamic breast surgical unit. We operate annually on approximately over 300 screening and symptomatic breast cancers.
Llanelli is in a beautiful part of the country. It is located close to the Gower Peninsula with stunning views. There is an abundance of outdoor activities, such as hill walking, coastal cycling paths, sailing and school opportunities. There are also close links to the M4.

Main duties of the job
To participate in providing, a service for the Breast Services to the hospital and community with the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness with your consultant.
o To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialtyo To participate, sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriateo To undertake all work in accordance with the Health Board's procedures and operating policieso To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Health Board's service planso Core clinical expertise in Breast Surgeryo Experience and knowledge of contributing to a subspecialty service; team building as well as working as part of a multidisciplinary teamo Participation in annual appraisal and job planningo Maintain professional development for revalidationo Maintain a teaching and training role for medical undergraduates and postgraduateso Supervisor role to junior and clinical medical staff where appropriateo To undertake regular clinical audit and to keep up to date with evidence-based medicine

Qualifications
Essential
- Full GMC Registration and License to Practice
- Valid Certified Advanced Life Support Skills
- FRCS/European Boards of Breast Surgery
Desirable
- 4 years full-time postgraduate training (or part-time equivalent), at least 2 of which in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty Or as fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Broad based experience in Breast Surgery
- Competence in Breast Surgical Procedures
- Knowledge and experience of communicating bad news
- Knowledge of UK hospital systems (or equivalent)
Desirable
- Experience of NHS
- Wider experience, research and training in providing subspecialty service
Clinical Governance

- Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice
