North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting opportunity for you to join our established team of 6 Rheumatologists in 2 replacement substantive Rheumatology Consultant posts. The existing Consultants have special interests in Early Inflammatory Arthritis, Connective Tissue Disease, Spondyloarthritis, Systemic Vasculitis and Ultrasound with opportunities and support for the successful candidate to develop areas of clinical interest. These posts also offer opportunities to participate in the department's research program and clinical trials.

We welcome applications from suitably qualified Physicians to undertake these full time roles however, less than full time roles would also be an option. The successful applicants would provide comprehensive Adult R heumatology care in an outpatient based setting. There are no out-of-hours or on-call commitments. NWAFT Rheumatology team developed and implemented the model of Diagnosis and Management of Fibromyalgia in Primary care, which is now recommended by GIRFT.

Applicants must hold MRCP or equivalent qualification and full General Medical Council (GMC) registration and be on the Specialist Register via CCST/CESR or within 6 months of obtaining CCST. These posts would equally suit newly qualified or established Consultants.

Job description
Job responsibilities

As one of the 6 Consultants, you will carry out a 10 Programmed Activity (PA) job. The proposed Consultant Rheumatologist job plan is shown below (8.5PAs clinical care, 1.5PAs supporting professional activity (SPA). The SPA time is for personal CPD, mandatory training and appraisal. Any additional roles such as Educational Supervisor will be supported by additional PAs as part of the formal job planning process.

Clinical activity will include 5 clinics per week with a case mix of new and follow up patients.

All clinic numbers are consistent with the RCP guidelines set out in the document Consultant Physicians working with patient revised 5th edition (12th Oct 2015). The post holder will carry out clinics at both PCH and HH.

Paediatric Rheumatology services are provided by the paediatric team. Our team has a dedicated Transition Lead Consultant and Nurse Specialist who liaise closely with the paediatric team and Transition service.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential

  • MBBS (or equivalent)
  • MRCP Intercollegiate or equivalent
  • Inclusion on the specialist Register of GMC in Rheumatology via CCT (The proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) CESR or European Community Rights.
  • Full GMC registration.

Desirable

  • MD or PhD

Experience & Knowledge
Essential

  • Thorough and broad training in adult Rheumatology
  • Teaching and commitment to education post and under-graduate levels

Desirable

  • Higher qualification in education
  • Experience in paediatric Rheumatology

Academic Achievements
Essential

  • Able to demonstrate successful participation in audit.
  • Evidence of completed and published research
  • Instigated, designed and completed audit projects and protocols

Desirable

  • Experience of having supervised and supported research students

Key Skills

  • Effective written (including record keeping) and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to use tact, diplomacy, negotiation and persuasion and well as authority
