Consultant Psychiatrist for Older People

Come and play a key role in our award-winning older people's service!

Our dedicated Older Person's hospital based at The Julian Hospital, Norwich is seeking driven Consultant Psychiatrists to join their growing team.

You'll be working alongside an established MDT, providing responsible clinician input to our inpatient wards and intensive community support team at our 'Centre of Excellence' base.

When you join our collaborative, innovative team you'll have the opportunity to make an interesting and stimulating job plan to support with the development of the services we offer to the older people of Norfolk.

Norfolk is a fantastic place to be a doctor; not only is the quality of life second to none for anywhere else in the country; but there are also brilliant opportunities for career progression here; there are fantastic opportunities to become a trainer, a medical leader and to get involved in developing the health services for our whole population - in a way that may be more challenging in an urban area. There is a real sense of togetherness and some fabulous communities that we can work with and support.

NSFT have a forward-thinking approach to MDTs, so you can expect to be working alongside Nurse Consultants, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, newly developed non-medical RC senior clinicians and more.

Main duties of the job

There is a well-established structure at The Julian hospital, and good colleague support. There is a strong older person's psychiatrist group in the trust as well as regular meetings with the senior medics in the care group with a thriving MSC locally.

Our service is made up of the following areas:

Sandringham Ward - 17 bed older people's admission ward for functional patients (usually 15 bed but currently enhanced numbers to accommodate Blickling partial closure for refurbishments)

Blickling Ward - 19 bed older people's admission ward for functional patients (currently partly closed for refurbishment, reopening with 19 beds in 2023)

(Sandringham is currently men and women over 75 years old. Blickling currently women only. However, when Blickling reopens in the new year there is scope to make 1 male admission ward and 1 female admission ward for functional patients)

Beach Ward - 13 bed male dementia assessment inpatient ward

Reed Ward - 13 bed female dementia assessment inpatient ward

Rose Ward - 13 bed continuing care ward for those suffering from dementia or other organic illness
