Job summary

Consultant salary plus 20,000 Golden Welcome (paid over 2 years)

Based in a popular area of West London, we are looking for a dynamic and skilled colleague to provide consultant input to the Hounslow Cognitive Impairment and Dementia Service (CIDS) within the Older People's Mental Health Service (OPMHS). The post-holder will be working alongside the new Specialist Older Adult Mental Health Service (SOAMHS) to ensure seamless and holistic care of patients presenting with dementia.

Hounslow CIDS has held accreditation with the Royal College of Psychiatrists Memory Services National Accreditation Program (MSNAP) since 2016. The team continually strives to enhance the experience of patients and is closely linked to Imperial College London both in terms of teaching and research.

WLT is one of the largest most diverse mental health services in the UK, employing around 4300 staff who are providing care and treatment for around 20,000 people each year and serving a local population of approximately 700,000 residents in the boroughs of Ealing, Hounslow and Hammersmith & Fulham. Clinical services are rated as Good by the CQC with an Outstanding rating for Caring.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be based at the Lakeside Mental Health Unit which sits in the same grounds as West Middlesex University Hospital in the London Borough of Hounslow. The post will involve leadership of the MDT as well as consultation/liaison GPs, primary care services and other mental health teams.

We are looking for a colleague with experience of working in older adult mental health services who is an excellent clinician, enthusiastic leader and mentor and who is passionate about continuous service improvement. You should have good communication and interpersonal skills, a commitment to community care for people with dementia, and be able to demonstrate an ability to work effectively and flexibly with a multi professional team.

The roles report directly to the Clinical Director, Clinical Lead and Head of Operations.

This is a great opportunity to work within an established dementia assessment and treatment service. You will play an integral role in taking opportunities to further develop the service and provide clinical and managerial leadership to the team.

The team consists of:

2 full time Consultants (including advertised post)

1 Staff Grade doctor

1 CT doctor

Band 8A Team manager

5 x band 6 Nurses

Occupational therapist

Band 8C Psychologist (clinical lead for psychology)

Band 6 Psychologist

Administration support is provided by 3x Band 4 admin staff to the team.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
  • MRCPsych
  • Additional clinical qualifications

Eligibility
Essential

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment
  • GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months
  • Approved Clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment

Desirable

  • GMC Specialist Register (old age psychiatry or dual training in both adult and old age) or within six months

Clinical Knowledge
Essential

  • Excellent clinical skills in assessment and treatment of older adults with mental health issues
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Excellent knowledge in speciality

Desirable

  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
