Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is the main provider of specialist mental health services for the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk, serving a population of 1.6 million people. 

We are a large organisation covering a wide geographical area divided into ‘Care Groups. There are also Care Groups supporting children, family and young people’s services, and specialist services, including Forensic mental health services. Each Care Group has its own Leadership team, with the aim of supporting clinically led decision making locally, to support the needs of people accessing services. 

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust was established in 2012, following the merge of Norfolk and Waveney Partnership Trust and Suffolk Partnership Trust. We have inpatient facilities across both counties with smaller bases in rural locations. Many of the Trust’s services are offered in the community, enabling people accessing services to receive the support they need in an environment familiar to them.

At NSFT we believe in recovery and wellbeing, and understand the importance of good physical health, maintaining relationships and achieving a balance between treatments and continuing an active life.

The people in our care, families and carers are at the centre of all aspects of all we do and are vital in helping shape and support our service strategy. Our strategy supports and enables people with mental health problems to live a fulfilling life and make their personal recovery journey.

Research at NSFT

NSFT is committed to growing the amount of research taking place locally and has developed a robust infrastructure to enable this to happen. The Trust has a thriving R+D department recruiting to Portfolio studies with a large R+D team in support of this. In addition there is an innovative research development programme which has successfully helped many clinicians to develop their research ideas and careers, link to other centres of clinical and research excellence and to guide them towards potentially leading on research grant applications. The department has been very successful in these grant applications with three dedicated teams: child and youth, adult, and older peoples clinical areas each of which is now leading on major publications and funded NIHR grants and fellowships. The department has strong links with UEA and other universities and has the full support of the Trust Board.

Ipswich in Suffolk is steeped in history, yet full of life. According to The London Economic, affordable house prices and hourly commutes to London have earned Suffolk’s county town a slot in their top ten property destinations. “In Ipswich we have got a fantastic cultural offer far better than what towns and cities bigger than us are offering.  We have got very good transport links, especially to London, and house prices are a lot cheaper in the area.”

One of Norfolk’s most famous stretches of beaches, Great Yarmouth attracts around six million tourists each year! Situated at the mouth of the River Yare, this old port town is home to beautiful golden sandy beaches and neighbouring towns and villages with scenic views and homely charm.

Full to the brim of history and with a vibrant town centre, King’s Lynn is the ideal destination to enjoy the superb mix of history, shopping and entertainment on offer!  A small, historic market town, King's Lynn is the perfect place to live and work, with fantastic train links and short drives to fantastic beaches.

Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk is a unique and dazzling historic gem. An important market town with a richly fascinating heritage, the striking combination of medieval architecture, elegant Georgian squares and glorious cathedral and abbey gardens provide a distinctive visual charm. With prestigious shopping, an award-winning market, plus variety of attractions and places to stay, Bury St Edmunds is under two hours from London and convenient for Cambridge.
