Job description
Job responsibilities

The Norfolk and Norwich Vascular Unit is part of the Directorate of Vascular Surgery.

There are daily all-day elective vascular operating lists in our dedicated vascular operating theatre which contains a high quality mobile image intensifier. We also have access to regular lists within a newly-built, cutting edge hybrid interventional radiology suite with a ceiling-mounted image intensifier and theatre-standard sterility for more complex endovascular interventions.

There are six consultant vascular interventional radiologists with an on-call rota for Interventional Radiology. Colour duplex imaging is provided by our dedicated vascular laboratory and we also have state-of-the-art CT and MR angiography facilities.

Weekly outpatient clinics are run in Cromer (at Cromer and District Hospital), Great Yarmouth (at James Paget University Hospital), Kings Lynn (Queen Elizabeth Hospital) as well as in Norwich. There are also specialist clinics for exercise treadmill testing and diabetic foot problems. The latter is run in conjunction with podiatry, diabetology and orthopaedics.

We have a dedicated 36-bedded vascular ward (Denton Ward) as well as a Surgical Assessment Unit for emergency admissions, a Day Procedure Unit and a Same Day Admissions Unit for elective inpatient surgery. We also have an excellent Critical Care Complex.

Our vascular nurse specialists run our AAA surveillance programme and our EVAR follow-up programme. They also run a new claudicant clinic and our supervised exercise class for patients with peripheral vascular disease. Our vascular research nurse supports audit and research. We participate in JVRG projects and have research collaborations with the nearby world-renowned Institute of Food Research and the University of East Anglia.

The vascular unit holds weekly MDT meetings and monthly audit meetings. In addition, the department holds monthly research meetings. The appointee must take an active part in the educational activities of the unit as part of their contractual duties. Study leave or speciality meetings and specialist instruction courses will be considered subject to applications on individual merit.
