NEWHAM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL SUBSTANTIVE CONSULTANT PHYSICIAN ACUTE MEDICINE

With up to 50:50 Specialty Interest

Newham University Hospital, part of the Barts Health NHS Trust Group is looking for 4 RCP approved WTE as full or part time Substantive Consultant Physicians in Acute and General Medicine.

Newham University Hospital is one of three acute Hospitals within Barts Health. You would be joining a friendly and growing team of Consultant Physicians with a variety of Internal Medicine backgrounds. The post holder will have the option of a 50:50 split with a specialty interest. A specialty interest is not essential and this post is also suitable for acute physicians.

Main duties of the job

Acute Medicine at Newham University Hospital offers an exciting opportunity to join a service that is growing to develop new models of working and services that support the needs of our patients attending the hospital with medical issues, as well as being linked through Barts Trust to all specialties. The post includes inpatient care on the Acute Assessment unit (Tayberry ward), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and supporting care within the medical take when on-call.

The growth of the team will also accompany the opening of a new wing which will open early 2023 that will house additional Medicine, Critical care beds and new Consultant offices. The Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and Acute Medical ward (Tayberry ward) were also recently refurbished.

As well as lead roles (due renewal Summer 2023) and opportunities, fully funded formal leadership training that ranges from short courses to MSc. or MBA will be made available to our substantive appointees through our NHS apprenticeship scheme. We are also looking for an Acute Medicine Education lead.

Job responsibilities

You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council with a license to practise and be on the Specialist Register, CESR or within 6 months of CCT.

Informal discussions and visits are encouraged and should you have a specialty interest, advanced discussion as to whether this would fit within the clinical framework of Newham University Hospital is strongly recommended.

Qualifications
Essential

  • MRCP or Equivalent Specialist qualification
  • Full GMC Registration with license to practice
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of date of advisory appointments committee via one of the following: a. Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) b. Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) c. European Community Rights

Desirable

  • Evidence of participation in research (peer reviewed publications etc.)
  • A higher degree (MD,PhD)

Clinical Experience
Essential

  • Higher specialist training in Specialty Interest and General Internal Medicine or Acute Medicine
  • Broad experience in Specialty and GIM/Acute Medicine
  • Current ALS certificate

Desirable

  • Experience in Ambulatory care.
