Consultant Community Adult Psychiatrist

Powys Teaching Health Board are delighted to recruit a Consultant Psychiatrist in adult Intellectual Disabilities and Consultant Community Adult Psychiatrist to join a forward thinking, highly motivated and enthusiastic Adult Intellectual Disabilities/Mental Health Team. The service area is well established and is always undergoing positive change to enhance service delivery which is both varied and interesting. The post holder will contribute to the intellectual Disabilities/Mental Health services aspiration to be the best and help shape a modernising service, but in addition will enjoy the flexibility of the balance of clinical work and support to develop on areas of specialist interest and service development.

Why join us?

The Intellectual disabilities service is a well-established team with close links with our colleagues within Mental Health services, Welsh Government, and Improvement Cymru to ensure all new ways of work will and can be adopted for the clients we support. Key to the successful development of safe, effective, valve-based health care, is the clinical leadership delivered by consultants and senior clinicians, which is only possible where the role of a psychiatrist is clearly defined. PTHB has recently developed the Powys ‘Role of the Psychiatrist’ statement, which outlines the role of a senior psychiatrist, in line with the Royal College of Psychiatrist’s ‘Role of the Consultant Psychiatrist’ (Occasional Paper, 2010).

Powys – What does Powys offer? -

Powys is the largest county in Wales with Snowdonia to the North and the Brecon Beacons to the South, the spectacular scenery is something to behold. Outdoor activities are superbly catered for, and the sense of community and sustainable living is tangible wherever to travel. If variability, flexibility, engagement, career development and job satisfaction are high on your list of desired employment attributes, then working in Powys could well be the answer.

What’s on offer?

We offer a competitive salary and relocation benefits, protected SPA and competitive study leave budget with funding and support for those pursuing their CESR, protected induction and access to salary sacrifice scheme. Indemnity is provided under the Welsh Medical Negligence Scheme. PTHB also recognises the complexities of working in a large geographical rural rea and need to ensure job plans have flexibility.
