The posts will offer a unique opportunity in terms of specialty interests and service development. The posts are based on 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week. Additional Programmed Activities may be available subject to service needs, e.g. participation on the on-call rota, programmed activities within tertiary centre at New Cross Hospital.

The successful candidates will work in collaboration with 6 Consultants, Cardiac Specialist Support Team and Primary Care Professionals to provide quality services for people with cardiac diseases.

Main duties of the job

1) To be responsible for ensuring a commitment in providing a high quality cardiology service to patients by continual development of practice in the light of research evidence and by audit against Clinical standards.2) To provide advice to primary and secondary care colleagues in other specialities in relation to cardiac problems and overseeing the internal referrals assessed by junior and specialist cardiac team.3) To provide a comprehensive outpatient service from clinics provided in both the main Outpatient Department and specialist clinics held within the Clinical Measurement Unit.4) To support teaching and training of junior medical staff, medical students Postgraduate Medical Education in general. The Trust will strongly Support and allow time for CPD for the Successful candidate.5) To support and encourage audit and research and develop close links with academic initiatives.6) To actively participate in CME and personal development programmes.7) To complement non-invasive imaging in addition to overseeing and addressing clinical

8) To support the on-going development of services for cardiology in line with the existing programmes for management of coronary heart disease, angina and heart failure liaising with community and primary care services.

Job responsibilities

The working week for a full-time Consultant is comprised of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) each of which has a nominal timetable value of 4 hours. Typically a Consultant will spend 7.5 PAs on Direct Clinical Care with 2.5 PAs on Supporting Professional Activities.A job plan in regard work distribution will be agreed with the Clinical Director and post holder on appointment.The job timetable is scheduled to reflect 6.5 direct clinical care PA and 2.5 SPA for teaching, audit & CME. 1 PA On general cardiology call.

Qualifications:
Essential
  • oBasic Medical Degree (eg MBBS
  • oMRCP or equivalent
  • oEntry on the GMC Specialist Register via:- oCCT (Proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) oEuropean Community Rights (not sure if this relevant as out of EE now) oCESR
  • oAn appropriate higher Cardiology qualification
Desirable
  • oMD/PhD
  • oTeaching or other qualifications
  • oTeaching or other qualifications oResearch
Clinical Experience:
Essential
  • oWide experience in Cardiology
  • oEvidence of Higher Specialist Training in Cardiology (or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview)
  • oAbility to undertake echocardiography
  • oAbility to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients
Professional and Multi-disciplinary team working:
Essential
  • oAbility to work collaboratively with colleagues and within a multi-disciplinary team
  • oAbility to develop effective working relationships on an individual and multi-professional team basis with all levels of staff
Management and Administrative Experience:
Essential
