Job overview
This post has arisen due to retirement of a consultant MSK radiology colleague.
The appointee will work closely with 5 other MSK radiologists and a team of highly skilled sonographers providing a diagnostic and interventional MSK service.
The appointee will contribute to a 1:6 weekend working which mainly covers the morning trauma meeting with orthopaedic surgeons and reporting of acute MSK CT/MRIs.
HUTH Trust employs 52 Consultant Radiologists and 3 externally contracted radiologists working across two major sites 5 miles apart. Funding has been approved to enable 6 additional consultant posts.
The local Radiology Training Scheme comprises 6 Specialist Registrars per year and has subspecialty fellowships in vascular intervention, diagnostic and interventional Neuroradiology. The department is involved in undergraduate teaching for the Hull and York Medical School and there will be an opportunity for the appointee to become involved in Medical Student Teaching.
The department is well equipped with 5 CT scanners, 6 MRI scanners, PET scanners, Radiology Day Unit and Interventional theatres. Molecular Imaging Research Centre (MiRC) housing a state of the art Cyclotron is set to open at the Castle Hill Site in September 2022. There are also 2 mobile CT and 2 mobile MRI scanners for use in the community.
Main duties of the job
The Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust provides a comprehensive range of acute services from two hospital sites. HUTH serves a local population of approximately 600,000 with tertiary services including stroke, neurosurgery and neurovascular / spinal intervention serving an extended catchment area of 1.25 million people. Hull is a designated Cancer Centre, Cardiac Centre, Vascular Centre, Stroke Centre and a Major Trauma Centre With an annual budget of £650 million and employing over 10,000 staff we are committed to the continuous development of services for the benefit of patients and to providing a comprehensive service of the highest possible quality.

The successful applicant should possess FRCR (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview.

The Trust’s secondary care service portfolio is comprehensive, covering the major medical and surgical specialties, routine and specialist diagnostic services and other clinical support services. These services are provided primarily to a catchment population of approximately 600,000 in the Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire area.
HUTH provides specialist and tertiary services to a population of 1.25 million extending from Scarborough in North Yorkshire to Grimsby and Scunthorpe in North East and North Lincolnshire respectively.
