We seek to appoint a leading clinical academic in diabetes and metabolism, with an established portfolio of internationally recognised research or with a trajectory indicating imminent international prominence, to the prestigious RD Lawrence Professorship at King’s College London. The successful candidate will join the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine & Sciences (SCMMS), directed by Professor Mauro Giacca, with clinical activity at King’s College Hospital and engaging with activities in Guy’s and St Thomas Hospital. The appointee will play a vital role leading diabetes and metabolism research at King’s College London, stimulating the translation of discovery science and facilitating the cross-talk between basic science and clinical research and practice. SCMMS provides an outstanding multi-disciplinary environment for the pursuit of cutting-edge cardiovascular and metabolic research (https://www.kcl.ac.uk/scmms).

SCMMS occupies facilities across the Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Denmark Hill campuses of King’s College London and comprises over 70 clinical and non-clinical academic groups, hosting 400 personnel and 110 PhD students and clinical fellows. Our community of world-renowned researchers and educators have access to state-of-the art core facilities and expertise, including facilities for high-throughput screening, multimodality in vivo imaging, proteomics, integrative physiology, viral & non-viral vector production and a human islet biobank for research. The Diabetes & Obesity theme within SCMMS aims to understand the pathophysiology of diabetes, disease related complications and metabolic disease to ultimately develop novel therapeutic treatments for these conditions.

As part of King’s Health Partners Diabetes, Endocrinology & Obesity (KHP DEO) we bring together clinical and academic teams from three leading NHS Foundation Trusts: King’s College Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’ and South London and Maudsley, and King’s College London. KHP offers state of art facilities for clinical research and clinical trials.  Collectively, we are the largest provider of diabetes and endocrinology services in Europe, and we serve a diverse group of patients.
