Job Details

We have an exciting opportunity available within the Clinical Oncology department at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre within East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. This is a fixed term appointment for 12 months, available from the beginning of January 2023. The post holder will provide care for cancer in-patients and will be closely supervised by the oncology consultants and specialist trainees.Patients are assessed in both routine clinic appointments and as an emergency through the acute oncology service.The post is not recognised as a training post; however, on-going training will be provided. We have an active Postgraduate teaching programme in a modern Postgraduate Centre on the hospital site. In addition, staff support, and mentoring is also available.This post may close earlier than the expected closing date stated if a sufficient number of applicants are received.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will gain invaluable experience in state-of-the-art radiotherapy techniques and will have the opportunity to enhance their e-portfolio. The post holder will be encouraged to participate in audits, presentations and teachings. Although, this post is not recognised for training the appointee will be encouraged in their training and development within the role.

Job description
Job responsibilities

They will review and supervise patients attending for chemotherapy and review acutely unwell patients and provide medical support to the nursing team. They will liaise with the wider hospital to ensure best care of cancer patients as part of the commitment to AOS delivery. Develop a clear understanding of the principles of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and managing acute oncological emergencies.

Maintenance of high-quality patient centred care. Reviewing patients undergoing cytotoxic chemotherapy

Eligibility
Essential

  • Hold a current licence to practice from the General Medical Council

Qualifications
Essential

  • ATLS certification or equivalent

Desirable

  • MRCP Part 1

Clinical Expertise in Speciality/Sub-speciality
Essential

  • Experience in medicine, oncology or surgery at equivalent level

Desirable

  • NHS experience

Fitness to Practice
Essential

  • Up to date and fit to practice safely and aware of own training needs
  • Evidences engagement with appraisal and revalidation

Teaching
Essential

  • Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues

Desirable

  • Experience in organising educational activities

Audit

  • Demonstrate understanding of basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice and clinical quality improvement initiatives
