An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen to join Mid Cheshire Hospital's expanding Division of Medicine and Emergency Care as Consultant Physicians in General Internal Medicine and a Specialty.

The Trust's new recruitment premium means that individuals choosing to come and work at MCHFT in this role will benefit from an additional 26,509 on appointment, in addition to their basic salary. This premium is in addition to relocation packages of up to 8,000 being offered by the Trust to you when you join. This payment is non-pensionable and there is a decreasing repayment schedule if you leave within four years.

The successful candidates would be dual accredited in Acute Medicine and General Internal Medicine.

Main duties of the job

This role comes with the opportunity for the successful applicants (should they wish) to spend two sessions to further develop interests in other areas which may include another specialty service or alternatively medical education, clinical governance and quality improvement, clinical leadership, research or supporting our new digital agenda. The specialty services available include Critical Care, Respiratory Medicine, Rheumatology, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Frailty, Palliative Care, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Care of the Elderly and Emergency Medicine.

Leighton Hospital is situated on the outskirts of Crewe, a pleasant railway town with a major engineering heritage; it remains the home of Bentley Motors.

In the surrounding area are many smaller towns and villages, as well as more rural localities. This region is dotted with many highly rated country pubs and restaurants, farm shops, and makers' markets.

Families can enjoy interesting days out at a variety of locations such as Tatton Park, Cholmondeley Castle & Gardens, Chester Zoo, Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker, the Anderton Boat Lift, Little Moreton Hall, Jodrell Bank Observatory, and many others.

Walkers will find many excellent locations including Delamere Forest and the Sandstone Trail, with the roads of Cheshire are very popular for cyclists. Golfers will discover a wide range of courses; many running events are held locally; there are a number of beautiful fishing spots. There are several local BHS approved riding schools, and many open water venues for water sports.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidates will be based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe in theAcute Medical Unit, Division of Medicine and Emergency Care.

The post is offered on a fixed term, full time, or job share basis; the job plan being intended for a full-time appointment with an opportunity to modify this if the post is offered on any other basis.

The successful applicants must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a License to Practice. The applicants must also be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Acute Medicine or General Internal Medicine with a specialist interest.

The successful candidates will be highly motivated with a passion to improve the quality of patient care. They will have strong communication skills and be an excellent Team Player. They will value training and education.

Person Specification

  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR or European Community Rights


  • MRCP or equivalent


  • MBBS or equivalent
