Applications are invited for the role of Trust Specialist Registrar(Senior ST grade] in anaesthesia and critical care in a dynamic and friendly department with a high regional and national profile.

The advertised posts offer excellent clinical experience with a wide and varied acute casemix, both within Theatres and Intensive Care Unit in close liason with Consultants. This post will offer a preparation for Consultant posts, or Staff Grade doctors wishing to build experience or develop a progression to Consultant posts.

In -hours the post holder will provide daytime Anaesthetic/ITU services. The proportion of which may be varied to suit individuals.

Salary Details: MN37 starting from 33790.00 - 53132.00 + Banding 1A [50% of the basic salary] +London Weighting 2,162.00

Main duties of the job

The Department of Anaesthesia provides services for in-patient (elective and emergency) and day care surgery in the following areas: general surgery, trauma, upper and lower GI surgery, urology, gynaecology and dental surgery.

In addition, the department provides an outreach service for ECT in the adjacent psychiatric hospital and for DC cardioversions in the Coronary Care Unit. The Anaesthetic Department is also responsible for running the Intensive Care Unit and an Acute Pain Relief Service..

Job responsibilities

This role was created to expand the on-call skill mix at Northwick ParkHospital by providing a second senior resident anaesthetist on-call as part of a five person resident anaesthetic team backed by two on-call consultants.The post provides:- anaesthetic cover and close support for the emergency department, including cardiac arrests, anaesthetic escort for radiology and trauma calls.- airway and anaesthetic cover for the ICU team, working with the consultants to cover ward referrals, critical care transfers, and activities on the intensive care unit- additional anaesthetic support to the on-call team as required.

Essential

  • Qualification-Medical Degree[MBBS or equivalent], FRCA or equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration without conditions, Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Experience of practice at senior trainee, speciality doctor, or associate specialist level in an acute hospital Ability to manage a wide range of anaesthetic, emergency and critical illness scenarios Ability to recognise and react appropriately to a deteriorating patient in ED, hospital wards, or critical care and peri-operative areas Skills and experience necessary to provide anaesthesia and emergency care at senior resident level, including intubation, central venous and arterial cannulation, management of ventilated patient, intra- and inter-hospital transfer, and paediatric resuscitation

  • Knowledge of functioning of NHS
