Job Details

Are you a passionate, innovative and enthusiastic Radiologist striving for a fulfilling career and flexible work life balance? Why not make that a reality in one of the most beautiful locations in the UK?

We are looking for a general radiologist with specialist interest in vascular imaging with intervention to join our regional service.

The Health Board provides many tertiary referral services. The vascular radiologist will join a team of 1 substantive consultant vascular interventional radiologist, 1 retire and return vascular radiologist and 1 locum in post, plus 5 non vascular interventional radiologists.

Morriston hospital has a modern DSA suite well supported with radiology nurses and dedicated radiographers. A hybrid vascular theatre is being developed.

We have 28 Consultant Radiologists delivering excellent radiology services over a range of specialities.

The Department offers many varied opportunities to capture all career aspirations within Radiology. Research and Development and teaching are fundamental to the service as a result of close working links with Swansea University Medical School, currently ranked 4th in the UK.

Main duties of the job

The National Imaging Academy at Pencoed opened to its first Radiology SPRs in August 2018. It aims to recruit 20 SPRs per training year to a total of 100 SPRs who will be assigned across South Wales. Opportunities are available to contribute to future Radiology and Radiography training pathways.

In view of the need for an on site vascular radiologist in Morriston, and to minimize disruption to this, participation in the general on call is not expected for this post, but if the candidate wished to participate this can be discussed. There may also be an option to join the South East Wales vascular IR on call rota in the future.

You will provide a clinical service, with colleagues, which will include the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.

You will be expected to make a significant contribution to the service and Radiology Department planning process through active participation in the clinical Morriston Service Group structure.

About us

The Health Board includes the busy tertiary referral centre of Morriston Hospital, the less acute, cancer orientated Singleton Hospital by the beach, and the smaller Neath Port Talbot Hospital. If you have an interest in education, many of our radiologists deliver sessions of dedicated teaching at the National Imaging Academy for Wales which is 40 minutes away along the M4. We also regularly teach medical students from Swansea University.

Swansea Bay University Health Board is situated in one of Wales' areas of outstanding natural beauty. Offering stunning beaches and coastlines whilst the Brecon Beacons National Park is less than an hour away. Local communities are welcoming with many highly ranked independent schools and colleges within the locality. Rail and road links are excellent with all of our Swansea Bay Hospitals being situated along the M4 corridor.
