Applications are invited for a Middle Grade Specialty Doctor. The successful candidate will join the existing General Surgical Department at Royal Glamorgan Hospital. The post will have a general surgical emergency resident 'on call' commitment on a 1:10 basis.

This post will join the team of consultants responsible for the provision of general surgical services to Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. The Registrar Post will be based at Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant, but may also be required to undertake sessions across other sites within the organisation.

The post will be required to share with Consultant colleagues the responsibility of providing General Surgical outpatient and inpatient care for the local population and in doing so foster excellent working relationships within and outside the General Surgical Department.

The General Surgery Department has supportive Consultants and a successful track record of facilitating the SAS/Specialty Doctor's to progress to CESR. Any successful candidate will have a great opportunity to have guidance from the candidates who have already obtained CESR or from those who are now in the CESR process.

The successful candidate would be working at ST / registrar level within the Department of General Surgery, Colorectal, Breast and Upper GI Surgery. The post would offer regular outpatient clinics, theatre sessions and registrar on-call duties (1 in 10 ). Endoscopy training is available to interested trainees.

Main duties of the job

To support the activities of the Gereral surgery department. Elective activity will include exposure to surgical sub Specialities such as oncology, open and laparoscopic surgery.

To enhance services within the Surgical Care Group.

To assist in team building across all Care Group services and teams.

  • Outpatient Clinics
  • Theatre Sessions
  • Ward Rounds
  • Pre Operative Assessment
  • Post Operative Assessment
  • On-call

Supporting Professional Activity

  • Research
  • Clinical Audit and Risk Management
  • Administration
  • Education and training.
