We are looking to recruit a Senior Clinical Fellow to join our General Surgery team at the Royal London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust. The post has a subspecialty interest in benign Upper GI Surgery. The post will be suitable for trainees at specialist registrar level, peri-CCT trainees or candidates aiming for post-CCT experience.
Barts Health NHS trust currently provides general surgical services from its three sites. The department of general surgery has specialist divisions of Hepato-pancreatobiliary surgery upper GI surgery and Colorectal Surgery. The Royal London Hospital is a major Trauma Centre.
The General surgery service at the Royal London hospital serves patients from east London and afar. It runs a full spectrum of activities including in-patient and out-patient care, endoscopy services, and has well established inter-disciplinary working with other services eg gynaecology for endometriosis and cancer, IBD for surgical care of IBD patients. Upper GI interests include anti reflux surgery, achalasia and gastrointestinal stromal tumours. There is a specialist Oesophageal clinic and a benign oesophageal MDT. There will be opportunities for endoscopy training to work towards JAG Accreditation.
The appointee will participate in the General Surgery on call rota and will gain experience in managing major trauma in a supportive environment
Main duties of the job
Clinical
- To provide ongoing care for the patients admitted under the UGI Surgery Firm. This will include ward rounds as per the firm rota.
- To attend operating lists, minor outpatient lists fortnightly (eg skin lesions), day case lists fortnightly at Newham, Inpatient lists weekly at Royal London.
- To attend outpatient clinics and Endoscopy lists at Royal London Hospital
- To Participate in the General Surgery and Trauma on Call rota
- The fellow will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, scientists, nurses and support staff, developing good working relationships within the team, and making use of discussions with the project supervisor(s), and other team members as appropriate, to establish and maintain excellent communication links.
- To attend Multidisciplinary Team meetings.
- The post-holder will be expected to directly supervise the junior surgical staff
