Post: Consultant in Breast Radiology

Salary: 86,063 - 111,732 per annum pro rata

Hywel Dda Radiology is looking to recruit a dynamic, motivated Consultant Breast Radiologist experienced in breast and general radiology. Applicants should have experience of symptomatic breast radiology at consultant level. The Health Board offers an excellent opportunity to join a progressive team of consultants and contribute to the on-going development of radiological services within the Hywel Dda University Health Board.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to be employed within the organisation on one of our three sites that deliver diagnostic breast services within the Health Board. The base will be agreed on appointment and there will be an expectation to travel and work at the other two sites in line with service need. Breast services are currently delivered at Bronglais General Hospital, Aberystwyth, Withybush General Hospital, Pembrokeshire and Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli. Potential candidates should be committed to team working, evolving services for patients utilising new evidence based techniques and technologies as they become available. The successful candidate will join the Health Board wide Radiology team and breast care multidisciplinary team.

Person Specification

  • Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practise
  • On Specialist Register/SpR due to obtain relevant CCT/CESR(CP) within 6 months of interview
  • FRCR or equivalent qualification


  • Relevant Higher Degree e.g. MD; PhD; MSc
  • MRCP

Clinical Experience

  • Broad based experience in General Radiology
  • Knowledge of UK hospital systems (or equivalent)
  • Knowledge and participation in CPD
  • Competence in General Radiology
  • Expertise in General Radiology
  • Demonstrative knowledge and experience in breast imaging including: oDiagnostic mammography, reporting oUltrasound examinations oUltrasound guided biopsies, stereotactic and vacuum assisted biopsy techniques. oFNA's oUltrasound and stereotactic guided wire localisations oParticipation in breast MDT meetings with responsibility for own caseload.
  • Able to apply knowledge
  • Safe and effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience of communicating bad news
  • Meet the requirement of the GMC's Good Medical Practice


  • Experience of NHS, wider experience research and training in providing subspecialty service
  • Evidence of above average performance

Clinical Geovernance
