Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be well supported by the wider GEH Haematology team, comprising of two substantive consultants already, a speciality doctor, physician associate, a rotational trainee, four clinical nurse specialists and dedicated admin support.

The Trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development (CPD) as laid down by the GMC and Royal Colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.'

Job responsibilities

Team GEH are looking for someone to function as an essential member of the Haematology team across Coventry and Warwickshire.

Duties include:

Providing expert advice and support regarding complex ethical and clinical decision making.

To undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients (including activity data as required) in line with Trust Policy.

Provide out of hours support across Coventry and Warwickshire as part of an on call rota.

Provide expert advice and support to health care professionals caring for patients with Haematology needs.

Provide clinical leadership and support for the Haematology department.

Participate in cancer peer review processes.

Provide a comprehensive clinical and laboratory service at the George Eliot Hospital and, as part of the network arrangements, at the UHCW.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

  • MB ChB, or equivalent
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • FRCPath or equivalent
  • Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview

Desirable

  • Postgraduate Research Qualification MSc, MD, PhD

Training
Essential

  • Applicants that are UK trained, must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
  • Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT

Experience
Essential

  • Wide experience in all aspects of clinical and laboratory haematology
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Haematology

Desirable

  • Evidence of previous research experience

Skills
Essential

  • Experience and interest in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Understanding of clinical governance
  • Skills in information technology

Desirable

  • Ability to plan and develop new services

Audit and Research
Essential

  • Experience in Clinical Audit
  • Experience in undertaking research projects
  • Awareness of research methodology
  • Awareness of evidence based practice

Desirable

  • Experience in organisation of Audit Projects
  • Relevant research publications

Management
Essential

  • Understanding the importance of management skills
  • Ability to manage and lead a clinical team

Desirable

  • Undertaken relevant courses
