UHB is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in England, serving a regional, national, and international population.

The sexual health service (branded as Umbrella) provides an integrated sexual health service to the entire population of Birmingham and Solihull. The main hub is based at the purpose-built Whittall Street Clinic in Birmingham and there are seven satellite clinics locations across Birmingham and Solihull. The service deals with approximately 100,000 patient episodes per annum. The post includes full participation in the UHB HIV service, including outpatient and inpatient care. The department of HIV medicine across UHB is the largest in the West Midlands, providing care to over 3,000 HIV-infected patients at all stages of their disease, and includes the regional paediatric/ transition service.

This post provides an opportunity to join an established and proactive consultant team to respond to the needs of our growing service. We have a number of opportunities within the department such as providing clinical leadership for the established Umbrella training and education team, lead for safeguarding, quality improvement lead or for a candidate with appropriate experience the opportunity to take on a leadership role in the UHB HIV service.

An additional 1 PA research session may be available for interested and suitable candidates.

As a result of its clinical expertise in treating trauma patients and military casualties, the QEHB has been designated both a Level 1 Trauma Centre and host of the UK’s only £20m National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Surgical Reconstruction and Microbiology Research Centre (SRMRC).
